01

Install Warranly

Open the Warranly listing on the Shopify App Store and click Install. Shopify will ask you to confirm the data access scopes Warranly needs:

Approve, and you'll land in the Warranly admin dashboard inside your Shopify admin. Installation is free; you won't be charged until you upgrade.

Tip: Warranly works on any Shopify plan from Basic to Plus. There's no separate development store version — install directly on your live store and use the test mode for verification.

02

Create your first warranty plan

In the Warranly dashboard, click Create plan. Each plan has four fields:

Plan name Customer-facing label. Example: 2-year protection, Extended cover.
Duration Months of coverage. Most merchants offer 12/24/36-month tiers.
Coverage type Description shown under the plan name. Example: "Accidental damage + theft".
Price Fixed amount (e.g. $29) or percentage of product price (e.g. 10%).

Then select which products this plan applies to: All products, specific collections, or individual SKUs. Click Save.

Most merchants start with three tiers (Standard / Extended / Premium) at round price points like $29, $49, $79. You can always add or edit plans later.

03

Add the widget to your product pages

Warranly uses Shopify's native Theme App Extensions, so there's no code to copy and no theme files to edit.

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize on your active theme
  2. Open the Product page template in the editor
  3. In the App embeds panel (left side), find Warranly Widget
  4. Drag the block below the Add to cart button
  5. Click Save

The widget now appears on every product page that has at least one warranty plan attached. Customers can pick a plan; it's added as a separate line item alongside the product.

04

Test the customer experience

Before announcing warranties to your customers, run through the full flow yourself.

  1. Open your storefront and navigate to any product that has a plan attached
  2. Confirm the widget appears below Add to cart, showing your plan tiers and prices
  3. Select a plan and click Add to cart — both the product and the warranty should appear in the cart
  4. Proceed to checkout and complete the order using Shopify Bogus Gateway (enable it in Settings → Payments → Manage → Bogus Gateway for testing)
  5. Return to the Warranly admin and open the Sales tab — your test order should appear with the warranty marked Active and the correct expiry date

If anything looks off, the issue is almost always a theme caching problem. Try the storefront in an incognito window or wait 30 seconds and retry.

05

Customize the widget

In the Warranly dashboard, open Widget Settings. You can adjust:

A live preview updates as you change settings. When the preview looks right, click Save — changes apply instantly without re-publishing the theme.

06

Enable cart, checkout & post-purchase upsells

The product page widget alone is a strong baseline. To capture customers who scroll past it or change their mind later, enable the three other touchpoints:

Cart drawer / cart page

Online Store → Customize → Cart template → drag the Warranly Cart block into your cart layout.

Checkout page

Settings → Checkout → Customize → drag Warranly Checkout into the post-shipping section. Available on Shopify Plus stores or with checkout extensibility enabled.

Post-purchase

Settings → Checkout → Post-purchase page → select Warranly as the post-purchase app. Shown on the order confirmation screen with one-click acceptance.

Each touchpoint can be toggled independently. Start with two and add more once you see the baseline conversion data.

07

Handle your first warranty claim

When a customer files a claim through the self-service portal (or via email), it lands in the Warranly admin under Claims → Pending. Each claim shows:

Approve to trigger a refund, send a replacement, or issue a discount code. Reject with a reason if the claim doesn't meet your warranty terms. Either way, the customer is emailed automatically with the resolution.

Pro tip: Auto-approve rules (Pro plan and above) let you fast-track low-value claims under a threshold. Most stores find approving any claim under $50 automatically reduces support load without measurable fraud increase.
