GENERAL
About Warranly
How is Warranly different from insurance-backed warranty apps?
Insurance-backed apps act as the warranty provider — they collect a percentage of every sale (typically 20–40%) and handle claims through their own underwriter. Warranly is the opposite: you are the warranty provider, you keep 100% of revenue, and you handle claims. We provide the software (widget, admin, claims portal) for a flat monthly fee.
Is Warranly an insurance product?
No. Warranly is software that helps merchants sell and manage their own warranties. We don't underwrite warranties, hold reserves, or process claims on your behalf. You're free to define your warranty terms, and you're responsible for honoring them. Check local consumer protection laws if you're unsure whether this model fits your jurisdiction.
What kind of products work best with warranties?
Anything with a meaningful price tag where breakage, theft, or wear is plausible: electronics ($50+), furniture, jewelry, watches, appliances, power tools, bikes, sporting goods, musical instruments. Warranties on goods under $20 rarely make sense — the perceived value is too low. Stores selling $100–$1,000 products usually see the highest attachment rates (5–15% of orders).
Can I migrate from another warranty app?
Yes. Most warranty apps let you export active warranties as CSV. We'll import them into Warranly so existing customers keep their coverage and you can manage everything from one place going forward. Email [email protected] with your CSV and we'll handle the migration.
BILLING & PLANS
Subscription and pricing
Is Warranly really free?
The Starter plan is free forever with up to 3 warranty plans, 30 warranty sales per month, and the product page widget. No credit card required. Upgrade only when you outgrow the limits.
How does billing work?
Paid plans are billed monthly through Shopify's Billing API, in USD. The charge appears on your normal Shopify invoice. There's no separate payment method to enter, no annual contract, and no setup fees.
What happens if I hit my plan's sales limit?
You keep selling. Warranty sales above your monthly allowance are billed at the overage rate listed on your plan ($0.10–$0.25 per sale). We'll notify you in the dashboard when you're approaching the limit, and suggest an upgrade once your overage would exceed the next plan's price.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel or downgrade your subscription from the Warranly admin or directly in Shopify. There are no cancellation fees. Existing warranties you've sold stay valid for your customers — your obligation to honor them doesn't change.
Do you take a percentage of warranty sales?
Never. Flat monthly pricing, no revenue share, no per-claim fees, no transaction percentage. Whatever you charge customers for warranties stays with you in full.
SETUP & WIDGET
Installing and customizing
Does Warranly work with my Shopify theme?
Yes — Warranly uses Shopify's native Theme App Extensions, which work on every Online Store 2.0 theme (Dawn, Sense, Refresh, and all paid themes from the Shopify Theme Store released in the last two years). For older Vintage themes, contact support — we can usually add manual support.
Do I need to edit my theme code?
No. The widget installs through the Shopify theme editor's drag-and-drop interface. No code, no Liquid edits, no script tag pasting. When you uninstall Warranly, the widget disappears cleanly — nothing left in your theme.
Can I match the widget to my brand?
Fully. Custom colors (accent, background, text), custom SVG icons, editable labels for every customer-facing string, and three layout options (list, cards, radio buttons). Paid plans also remove "Powered by Warranly" branding from the widget and emails.
Where can I show warranty offers?
Four touchpoints: product page, cart drawer/page, checkout, and post-purchase. The product page widget is on every plan; cart, checkout, and post-purchase placements are available from Growth upward. Each touchpoint can be toggled independently.
CLAIMS
Handling warranty claims
Do customers file claims through Warranly?
Yes. Each warranty includes a unique link to a branded self-service claims portal where customers describe the issue, upload photos, and submit. The claim lands in your Warranly admin dashboard for review. You can also accept claims by email and create them manually if needed.
How long does claim review take?
The merchant controls this. Most claims take 2–3 minutes to review in the admin. Auto-approve rules (Pro plan and above) let you fast-track low-value or pre-screened claims so they're processed instantly without manual review.
What's the resolution? Refund, replacement, repair?
You decide. Warranly supports four resolution types: full refund, partial refund, replacement (creates a draft order in Shopify), or repair credit (issues a discount code). The customer is emailed the resolution automatically.
INTERNATIONAL
Multi-market and translations
Does Warranly support multi-currency stores?
Yes. Warranly integrates with Shopify Markets and auto-converts warranty prices using Shopify's exchange rates. You can also override prices per market manually if you want different pricing strategies for different regions (e.g., higher margins on premium markets).
What languages are supported?
14+ languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Japanese, simplified Chinese, Korean. Customer-facing strings (widget, claims portal, emails) are fully translated. You can also override any string in any language.
DATA & PRIVACY
How your data is handled
Is Warranly GDPR compliant?
Yes. Warranly implements the three mandatory Shopify GDPR webhooks (
customers/data_request, customers/redact, shop/redact) and complies with EU data residency, right-to-access, and right-to-erasure requirements. Read full details in our Privacy Policy.
What customer data do you store?
For each warranty sale: order ID, product title, plan name, price, expiry date, and the customer's email (so we can email them about claims). We do not store names, addresses, phone numbers, payment details, or browsing behavior. Customer email is deleted on GDPR erasure request.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
All your data is deleted within 48 hours of uninstall. Before you uninstall, export your warranties as CSV from the admin if you want to keep a copy or migrate to another system.
